Leprechaun Flambé

St. Patty's Day

My little Joey informed John and I that we needed to build a leprechaun trap! (huh?) This trap would enable him to capture a leprechaun which he would then lead us to his pot of gold. You know so we can pay of mom's student loans! (Such a salesman, Lol) He then went on to say that leprechauns are very crafty and they were impossible to catch but the upside is that he typically looses lots of gold coins (made out of chocolate) in his struggle to get out of the trap -it's a win-win either way!

Good Grief!
My immediate response: you've gotta be kidding me! AND that's a cute idea! A perplexity of emotion I tell you. Now I'm all about making my kids' life fun and their childhoods memorable, but seriously! What mom do I need to slap some sense into for making this little "tradition" up? LOL!! I'm seriously cursing pinterest right now despite my love of it!

I have to think fast.....cause the 3rd boy is quick (a little too quick!).  So I say.....

Me: Well son, here's the deal: we are not Irish...
Joe: ((tries to protest but is denied!!))
Me: I know you don't have to be Irish for a leprechaun to visit but you son are Native American and French, which just happens to be a leprechauns worst nightmare!
Joe: (confusion heavy on his brow) What??
**I know see where Joe gets his looks because John has the same look of confusion planted firmly on his face ---but he knows my scheming ways and I see a sparkle of a smile lining his lips**
Me:  Yep! You won't find one within 100 yards of our home because they can sense these things, you know!
Joe: Why? (Sad face breaking my resolve.....almost)
Me: Well the French in you makes him think that you will snatch him up and Flambé him up into a fine delicatessen and the Native in you makes him think you are gonna get all savage up in here and eat up that fine little well prepared treat --so he won't come here. Sorry. (I shrug my shoulder in a I'm-so-sad-for-you-buddy kind of way.)
Joe: (laughs and shrugs his shoulders)

No protest! Why? Because he knows it is hogwash! Lol! Why didn't I just build the little trap and leave him the candies like everyone else, you wonder? Because I'm not going to put all these unnecessary pressures on myself or John. I can't keep up with all that crazy stuff and I won't. We wear green or get pinched....good enough for me!! Lol!!

Here's the biggest deal of all, I'm not raising spoiled brats, or children who run my home, or allowing commercialism and parenting fades to determine my success.....in the end they only make me feel like a failure. My kids are blessed and have a pretty amazing life. They have two parents who are crazy about each other and whom love them without holding back. When my boys' heads hit their pillows at night, I want the last thing that crosses their minds to be...."I am loved!"

Final note: Elf on the Self, don't come knocking on my door because we'll eat you too!! -- You'd make a fine filling for sweet little Bouchées!!

Yummy!!
