Essential Oils Conquer The Flu

My introduction to doTerra started with the flu last year. Well, let me be honest, it started with a really bad cold. I was sick about a month before the flu hit our home, and my sweet precious neighbor heard and dropped of a little EO care package (Breathe, OnGaurd, Lemon, Eucalyptus & Breathe Drops) to my house. Always the skeptic, I thanked her graciously then shoved the oils in the junk drawer in my kitchen. Living with colitis has made me very wary of trying anything new, especially anything that has a 'smell'. My digestive system seems to react to 'smells', and if you have colitis then you know my pain.

Anyhow, I toughed out the cold, forgot about the oils, and went about life as usual. That is until my hubs got the flu. We are talking 104 temp flu! After he got home from the doc, I was petrified! Why? Two of my boys have asthma, and I get sick very easy. I had whopping cough the year before; whopping cough! Who even gets that anymore?!?!

After shaking myself free from fear, I ran downstairs, and fished the oils out of my junk drawer. Don't judge, but my closest friends use doTerra so I knew exactly how to use the EOs from listening to them talk about how great they are and how they have been at improving the health of their families (Doh! **slaps forehead**).

I applied the OnGaurd, neat (no carrier oils) to everyone's throat 3-4 times a day. At night, I dropped a couple drops of the Breathe (neat) into my palms, rubbed them together, made a tent over each boys face to inhale for 5 breaths, and then rubbed my hands on their pillows. I then put a couple drops of Eucalyptus into our humidifier and ran that all day and night. I also added a couple drops of lemon to our water and hot tea daily.

My husband, who was diagnosed with the flu and prescribed Tamaflu, started to have trouble breathing. His chest was super tight, along with a very painful cough. So, I dropped a couple drops of the Breathe into my hands, tented his face for 5 breaths, and rubbed the rest onto his chest. Within minutes (MINUTES) he told me that he could feel the tightness breaking up in his chest. I gave him a couple of the breath drops and he recovered from the cough in 5 days! 5 days people! Even with the aide of the Tamaflu, no one gets over the dry hacking cough that meets you in the aftermath of the flu that fast!

So the scariest, my middle boy, with asthma, started to get sick. This is my child who, when sick, lives between the ER and PCP's office, while having to do Nublizer treatments of Albuterol and inhaled steroids every 4 hours, along with an oral steroid. I'm not gonna lie, I felt like the EOs failed me. Of all my kids, this is the one I really didn't want sick. However, I continued my regimen of Ongaurd applied neat to the throat, Breathe tented to his face, lathed up on pillows and his chest, and kept the humidifier fully loaded with Eucalyptus.

What is most interesting, is that an epiphany slapped me across the face as we walked out of the Flu Storm. Does that ever happen to you? You are warring (and I mean full blown world war 3) for your family, so consumed with the battle in front of you, that you don't even recognize or see your wins? The battle ragging so loudly that you forget to count your wins? Me too!

In the aftermath, my Praise Jesus moment landed loudly on my chest. Not only did my husband get over the flu in 5 days, but my oldest, my youngest, and myself DID NOT get sick! This in itself is a hot dang miracle! But the most amazing, I realized that we never once had to take our middle boy to his PCP nor did we suffer -not even one- trip to the ER! Mir-a-cle! Seriously! Not only that, I didn't have to give this child one, not one, Nebby Treatment. I couldn't believe it! And he was totally well within those 5 days. I was dumbfounded and praising Jesus. If you have a child with medical issues, you can fully understand the weight of each one of my declarations. No meds! None! No long recovering! No missing numerous days of school! No recovery from all the meds inhaled and ingested! I still cannot wipe the huge smile off my face every time I think about this Flu episode that did not win, that did not conquer us, that did not take us down. And we only walked away in-the-hole for John's co-pay and prescription. That's it!

As you can well understand, as easy as 2+2, I am a doTerra Essential Oils fanatic! My house smells delish, my family is so much healthier (way less doc visits), and there is a sense of happy that we didn't know we were missing, that is dancing all around us.  I have since used the oils in a 100 different ways to build our immunity, act as a preventative medicine, and to remedy ails here and there that I will be blogging about often!  And my goal is to reach up into the heavens and pull down 1000s of ways to help improve our health, our happiness, and our longevity. And, of course, share every win, every miracle, and every answered prayer with you!
