How To Take Proper Shower

Now don't get all, What?!?! on me here! With a house full of boys, I've had this conversation so many times that I'm ready to provide a written follow-along 'How To' presentation in lieu of yet another clean-yourself-lecture. Ha!

I Love Lucy

  1. Turn on the shower. This is vital to getting yourself clean!
  2. Get your entire body wet. Yep! including your hair and face!
  3. Get the shampoo bottle (make sure it says SHAMPOO!!)
  4. Add a quarter size (not soft ball size that is spilling out of your hands) of shampoo into your cupped hand.
  5. Put it in your hair!
  6. Scrub! All. Over. Back. Front. Sides. Behind your ears. Note: Shampoo is for your scalp, so scrub accordingly. Don't simply rub it around on your hair. Make wolverine claws out of your hands and scrub past your hair all the way to the scalp.
  7. Stick your entire head under the water and rinse the shampoo from your scalp and hair. All of it!
  8. Wring out hair to ready it for conditioner. (Less water in your hair means more conditioner will be 'sucked' into your dried ends.)
  9. If you use conditioner, now is the time to make sure that you have the bottle in your hands.
  10. Put a dime (for short hair) or quarter (for longer hair) sized dollop of conditioner into your cupped hand.
  11. Put it on your hair!
  12. Conditioner is for your hair. Apply to the ends of your hair and work your way to the roots. Squeeze ends to push out water and force in the conditioner. Note: If you have oily skin DO NOT rub conditioner into your scalp, especially around your face. When is it appropriate to apply to scalp? If you have dry/itchy spots (like in the winter), gently massage your fingers into only the dry/itchy patches of the scalp.
  13. Boys and/or girls with short hair: Rinse conditioner now! Leaving conditioner in short hair will only make it oily and that's no bueno!
  14. Boys and/or girls with long hair. Leave conditioner in your hair and move to the next step without rinsing.
  15. Grab a bar of soap.
  16. Start washing your body. Neck to Toes! Wash critical stink areas more than once: armpits, pee-pee, butt, and feet! The soap should be super bubbly, enabling you to pass yourself off as the Stay-Puffed-Marshmallow-Man. If you see no suds, you are doing it wrong! Note: For little kids I do not advise shower gels with a spongy scrubby things. I think it is as unsanitary as using a sponge in the kitchen! Nasty. Also, kids? squirting your shampoo or shower product into the tub and rolling around in it until the suds disappear is NOT effective washing and scrubbing techniques. Fun but not gonna help you with your stank!
  17. Wash your face last. Note: DO NOT wash your face with bar soap if you are 12 and older!!! You will need some kind of 'gentle' product that is made specifically for your face. Make sure you choose a product that's specific to your needs: acne, blackheads, sensitive skin, ect...
  18. RINSE!! (Long hairs: rinse your hair at this time too.)
  19. Shavers: Grab your shave creams/gels and razors. Start with your pits and end with your legs. Pits: shave in both direction --up and down. This will ensure all hair is shaved including the stubborn ones. Unless you are super hairy, I strongly suggest shaving only knee down every day. This is where the hair seems to grow the fastest and is the most prickly. Do whole leg every 3-9 months.
  20. Extra rinse time for all!
  21. Get out and dry off completely before leaving the bathroom. Pat towel over body, do not rub it onto your skin.
  22. Immediately apply lotion. Doing so now will allow for most absorption --your pores are supple and open.
  23. Lastly, apply deodorant right now! Don't wait; you'll forget.

As a side note, girl or guys with long hair, I strongly suggest washing your hair every other day to maintain healthy hair. If you are super oily and need to wash daily, wash only around your face while trying to keep most of the shampoo away from the ends --apply a very small amount of conditioner only to the ends and rinse right away.

Hope this helps your household smell as good as it should! Lol!
